Celebration of Immigration to be Held August 4

Neighbors in Support of Immigrants will hold their third annual “Celebration of Immigration” at the St Rosalie’s Church Community Center, 31 Montauk Highway, Hampton Bays, on August 4th from 6 to 9 p.m. There is a $10 charge for adults and children under 16 can attend for free.

All proceeds will go towards legal assessments for at-risk local immigrants.

“We hold this celebration of immigration because NISI understands the economic and cultural contributions made by our immigrant neighbors that add to the richness of life on the East End,” says celebration coordinator Anne Hastings. We want to recognize the positive impacts that comes from immigration and to assert that America, more than any other country, should be proud of its immigrant heritage.”

“The region encompassing Long Island and New York City has seen a 31 percent increase this year in arrests of immigrants sought for deportation,” Hastings added, “we need to understand the devastation that is visited on the lives of people trying to make their way in America not only affects them, but everybody.”
