Letter: “Back the Blue” Means Something Quite Different to Black Americans

Long before the killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police and before the media regularly reported them, killings of black Americans by police in cities and small towns, South and North have been occurring.
Some statistics are available here

Although our local law enforcement in Southampton and East Hampton Towns are not involved in these killings, the phrase ‘Back The Blue‘ means something quite different to black residents across our nation.

We can continue to ignore this or we can start to make amends by condemning the meting out of justice on the streets.
Thanks to Willie Jenkins and Lisa Votino for their local leadership
