Thank you to all who participated in this last election.
I want to give a special thanks to those business owners who allowed me to stand outside their businesses and hand out my information. Thank you all for the conversations we had, and for your valuable feedback–from Laurel to Orient! Thank you as well to those who graciously opened your doors when I knocked on them. Also, all who had signs on their property!! It is all part of our participatory democracy!
The Board of Elections released the final official results of the November election on December 6th. I lost by just 34 votes.
Granted, a loss is a loss, however, this election for the Town Board certainly was NOT A MANDATE FOR THE STATUS QUO. In fact, there was consensus by almost half of the voters, that my approach of proactive leadership, inclusive facilitation and impartial thinking would honor and serve the needs of Southold Town.
That said, there was an energy and hope in this election. To all of you who voted, made phone calls and knocked on doors: keep that commitment going! I encourage you to join a civic association, go to Town Board Work Sessions and Town Board Public Hearings. I urge you to attend Planning Board and committee meetings, and please do apply to participate in the committees.
It was a privilege and an honor to be a candidate for Town Board. Let us all work together to protect and preserve Southold Town.
