Southampton Wants Your Opinion on Hampton Bays Business Development

Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays has been in need of repaving for years.

Southampton Town is inviting the public to participate in a survey to help consultants with the future design of the downtown business district of Hampton Bays.

The overlay district spans from Springville Road to Ponquogue Avenue and includes Good Ground Road, Main Street and the parcels adjacent to the new Good Ground Park.

The survey was prepared following a public meeting earlier in November with the Southampton Planning Department that kicked off a charrette process to invite public input on future planning.

Participants in the process will choose aesthetic and functional features they believe will retain the character of the hamlet. At the first meeting, about 40 people looked at designs from other towns and villages and told consultants their preferences for design elements to be encouraged in the overlay district.

This process will lead to changes in the town code to assure that design standards and forms are aligned with community expectations.

Planners decided at that meeting to broaden the process by including a survey on the town’s website to reach more people from the community.

The Community Preference survey can be found on the town’s website here.
