Suffolk County Legislature to Hold This Week’s Committee Meetings in Riverside

The Suffolk County Legislature will hold this coming week’s committee meetings in the Maxine Postal Legislative Auditorium at the Suffolk County Center in Riverside.

The legislature, which usually meets in Hauppauge, despite the fact that Riverhead is the county seat, last held its committee meetings in Riverside in April 2016, the first time in generations that committee meetings were held in the easternmost outpost of county government.

Riverside is a part of Southampton Town just across the Peconic River from downtown Riverhead, and is often referred to, incorrectly, as part of Riverhead.

The meetings came at the request of First District Legislator Al Krupski and Second District Legislator Bridget Fleming, who argue that holding some committee meetings in Riverside makes Suffolk County government more open and accessible for residents in the eastern portion of the county.

All meetings will be held at the Maxine Postal Legislative Auditorium, Suffolk County Legislature, Evan K. Griffins Building, 300 Center Drive, Riverhead, NY. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

IR 1059: Authorizing the acquisition of land under the New Suffolk County Drinking Water Protection Program (effective December 1, 2007) – open space component and the Old Suffolk County Drinking Water Protection Program [C12-5(D)] – for the Capital Asset Retirement Fund, LLC and Tristate Capital Holdings, LLC property – Brushes Creek in the Town of Southold.

Government Operations, Personnel, Housing & Information Technology:
IR 1056: Amending the Suffolk County Classification and Salary Plan in connection with a new position title in the Suffolk County Police Department: Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Police.

IR 1111: Authorizing planning steps for implementation of Suffolk County Workforce Housing Program (Riverview Lofts).

Parks & Recreation:
IR 1057: Authorizing the Suffolk County Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation to accept a monetary donation from the Suffolk County Parks Foundation, Inc. to improve and enhance Suffolk County-owned public parks.

Public Safety:
IR 1050: Adopting Local Law No. -2017, A Local Law amending County restrictions on outdoor restraint of pets.

Ways & Means:
IR 1126: Requiring Traffic and Parking Violations Agency to post its fine schedule online.
