Broad Cove Named Great Place for Birding, May Mile Raises Record Funds for GFD, Hochul Endorses Kathee Burke-Gonzalez

• We’re expecting sunny skies today, with a high temperature in the high 60s and a north wind around 7 miles per hour. We’re expecting increasing clouds overnight, with a low around 51. Wednesday will be mostly cloudy, with a high in the high 60s and a 20 percent chance of showers, with a south wind 7 to 16 miles per hour, gusting to 25. We’re expecting showers on Thursday, with thunderstorms also possible after 2 p.m. and a high in the high 60s.
• The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation announced last week that Broad Cove Preserve in Aquebogue has been added to the New York State Birding Trail list, the first of three North Fork locations to become a state-designated birding designation. A DEC grant has also recently funded invasive species removal and native grass plantings, as well a series of new trail connections, benches, overlooks in the preserve. Read More.

• East Hampton Town Democrats announced Monday that New York Governor Kathy Hochul has endorsed East Hampton Town Supervisor Kathee Burke-Gonzalez in her June 23 primary against East Hampton Village Mayor Jerry Larsen. “Kathee Burke-Gonzalez has delivered real results for East Hampton, and I am proud to endorse her re-election as Town Supervisor,” said Governor Kathy Hochul in the announcement. “Kathee knows how to work with partners at every level of government and bring resources home for the people she serves. From expanding affordable housing and advancing clean energy to protecting East Hampton’s coastline, she has fought for the priorities that matter to local families. I’m excited to keep working with Kathee to build on that progress and deliver even more for East Hampton and for New York.”
