Ozone Advisory, Oyster Keepers, Fishers Island & OFD Pig Roast

Good Morning!

• We’re expecting sunny skies today, with a high temperature near 87 degrees, with a southwest wind 9 to 15 miles per hour. It will be mostly clear overnight, with a low around 77. We’re expecting sunny skies on Wednesday, with a high in the low 90s but heat index values in the high 90s and a 20 percent chance of afternoon showers and evening showers and thunderstorms. Thursday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 87.

• The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation issued an air quality health advisory due to high levels of ozone today from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Suffolk County Department of Health Services Commissioner Dr. Gregson Pigott advises that all residents, especially young children, seniors, those who exercise outdoors, and those with pre-existing respiratory or heart problems limit strenuous outdoor activity. Anyone who experiences eye, nose and throat irritation, shortness of breath or chest pain, is advised to contact their medical provider.

• The Shelter Island Town Board will discuss potential new locations for Oyster Keepers’ shellfish restoration areas, a financial overview of a proposed 10-unit housing complex and review of Sylvester Manor’s site plan application at its 9 a.m. work session this morning. Here’s the agenda, and the meeting can be viewed live on the town’s YouTube channel.

• The Southold Town Board holds its annual meeting on Fishers Island today, at which they’re expected to approve a thoroughly sad resolution accepting the resignation of Sonia Spar, recently honored by Suffolk County as a Champion of Diversity, as the town’s Community Service Worker, along with several resolutions pertinent to Fisher’s Island. We wish Ms. Spar all the best. The press isn’t invited to Fishers Island this year (it had frankly been a bit of a junket) and the Town Board is taking a small boat there with limited staff. We wish them safe passage. Here’s the agenda for the meeting, which can be viewed on Zoom.

• The East Hampton Town Board will discuss living shorelines in Montauk and code changes regarding emergency vehicle turnarounds and ocean and waterbody discharges at its 11 a.m. work session this morning at the Montauk Library. Here’s the agenda, and the meeting can be viewed live on LTV’s YouTube channel.

• The Southampton Town Board meets this evening at 6 p.m. There are no public hearings on the agenda, which can be found online here. The meeting can be viewed live on Sea-TV’s YouTube channel.

• The Orient Fire Department’s annual Pulled Pork Pig Roast will be held this Saturday, July 18 from 4 to 8 p.m., with music by the Linden Farm All-Stars. Get Your Tickets Here.
