Happy Groundhog Day!

• We are not having a repeat of last Monday’s snowstorm, contrary to media hysteria. The snow and sleet we saw overnight is expected to turn to heavy rain later this morning as the thermometer climbs to 40 degrees this morning. Look out later this afternoon when the temperature again plummets and all this stuff freezes. We’re expecting a low of 12 degrees tonight and highs below freezing tomorrow. Stay tuned to your local school district for information on delays and closings.

• Community Action Southold Town hosts its annual Have-A-Heart lasagne dinner at Peconic Landing on Friday, Feb. 6. The annual Valentine’s Day-themed event raises money for the food pantry and community outreach services at CAST’s Greenport office, and this year is raising funds for the victims of a fire in Southold last week. Tickets are $20 and there will be two seatings, at 5 and 7 p.m. For more information, call 631.477.1717 or visit their website here.

• The North Fork Community Theatre will present a fundraiser performance of “Love, Loss and What I Wore” on Feb. 14 at 8 p.m. and Feb. 15 at 2:30 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the NFCT Renovation Campaign. Tickets are $15 ore information is online here.

• And, oh yeah, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow this morning. Happy six more weeks of winter.

And that’s the way things look at dawn’s light today.
