• The Riverhead Town Board unanimously voted Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 5 to designate J. Petrocelli Riverhead Town Square LLC qualified and eligible to construct the new Town Square on East Main Street and an adjacent five-story hotel with restaurants and shops on the ground floor. Read More.
• The New York Marine Rescue Center will be releasing three Kemp’s Ridley and four Atlantic Green sea turtles this evening at 6 p.m. sharp at Tiana Beach in Hampton Bays. The public is welcome to attend. More info is on their Facebook page.
• Box Pickleball Container Bar & Kitchen at 605 Old Country Road in Riverhead (the former KMart) hosts a New York Blood Center blood drive today from noon to 6 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments can also be made online here.

• The Southold Town Anti-Bias Task Force holds its Annual Unity Picnic on Saturday, Aug. 9 from Noon to 4 p.m. at the Peconic Community Center, 1170 Peconic Lane. This afternoon features live music, games, prizes, and entertainment for all ages and complimentary hot dogs, hamburgers, and beverages. I took note when Avelo, an airline based in New Haven, was cited for contracting with ICE. Avelo is a passenger carrier with flights across the country, started by former CFO of United, and is in deep financial trouble. I went on their site [aveloair.com] and told them where to go.
