• There’s an 80 percent chance of showers today, with thunderstorms also possible later in the day and patchy fog before 9 a.m. The high temperature today is expected to be near 77 degrees, with a south wind 5 to 7 miles per hour. Showers and thunderstorms will continue overnight, with a low around 63. Wednesday will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 74 and a 30 percent chance of showers before 8 a.m. Thursday will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 83 and a 30 percent chance of showers before 8 a.m.
• The Peter Matthiessen center is welcoming two inspiring events to the Southampton Arts Center today. The first is a book talk with journalist and Now Voyager magazine founder Nicholas Niarchos, who will read excerpts from his award-winning book, “The Elements of Power: A Story of War, Technology, and the Dirtiest Supply Chain on Earth,”at 4 p.m. Following the book talk, SAC hosts the East End launch of Now Voyager, a new print magazine of international reporting, longform storytelling, photography, and art. • The Greenport Village Board holds its rescheduled August monthly regular meeting today at 5 p.m. at the Old Schoolhouse on Front Street at the corner of First Street. The agenda is expected to be posted here. We’re not expecting to hear an announcement of the appointment to fill Trustee Julia Robins’ seat until the Village Board’s work session on Sept. 17, according to Mayor Kevin Stuessi.
• The Mattituck-Laurel Library hosts a presentation on the plans for several agricultural buildings on a piece of farmland at 4180 New Suffolk Avenue this evening at 5 p.m. Find Out More. • The Riverhead Town Board holds three public hearings at its 2 p.m. meeting this afternoon — on a “Monroe Balancing Test” to determine if the town has jurisdiction over the newly routed Suffolk County Water Authority North Fork Pipeline, on the new ambulance barn for the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps and on extending a sewer connection to 840 Old Country Road. • The East Hampton Town Board will discuss the East End Youth Police Academy and code amendments, including changes to the accessory dwelling cap by school district, at its 11 a.m. work session this morning at Town Hall. Here’s the agenda, and the meeting can be viewed live here.
• The Shelter Island Town Board will review the site plan application for the restoration of Sylvester Manor, and discuss updating the town’s wetlands code and a proposed local law amending the town’s building construction code at its 9 a.m. work session this morning.
