• We’re expecting mostly sunny skies today, with a high temperature near 90 degrees and heat index values as high as 103, with a west wind 3 to 8 miles per hour. It will be partly cloudy overnight, with a low around 74 and a 40 percent chance of overnight showers and thunderstorms. Saturday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 89, and Sunday will be sunny, with a high near 90.
• The 295-foot U.S. Coast Guard training barque Eagle is expected to tie up to Greenport’s East Pier this morning for a weekend in the village. The Eagle will be open for public tours from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, and will be open from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday for tours for members of the military and first responders. The ship’s arrival coincides with several events in the village, including a 25th Anniversary celebration of Mitchell Park and fundraiser for an ice rink in the park Saturday evening, and a conversation with the captain and crew of the Eagle, along with sea shanties by Ethel’s Mermen, this evening at 7 p.m. Find Out More.
• Southold Town is trying to get the word out that it is not planning to provide down payment assistance on $2 million homes, after another local media outlet reported a new cap on the purchase price of the homes would be $1.9 million — up from an initial proposal of $750,000. The real maximum value of the houses that could be purchased through the program is more like $950,000, says Southold Community Development Project Coordinator Andrea Sullivan. Read More.
